ATLANTA, June 18, 2014 – The Rotary Club of Brookhaven today announced the Club and its members contributed $80,000 for the Shepherd Center SHARE Military Initiative at its Fourth Annual Service Above Self Invitational golf tournament (www.sasinvitational.org), held May 12, 2014, at the Cherokee Country Club.

The event has now contributed more than $225,000 to the SHARE Military Initiative over the past four years. Headline sponsors Magellan Health Services, Choate Construction, Consolidated Services, Inc., and Cunningham and Associates led the fundraising efforts for the tournament. Additional major level tournament sponsors included Crawford Media Services and UBS Financial.

“The Rotary Club of Brookhaven is proud to continue partnering with Shepherd Center for such a vital cause,”’ said Brookhaven Rotary president Jonathan Byrd. “It is extremely gratifying to know that the funds raised at this tournament each year have a direct impact on the health and well-being of the soldiers who put their lives on the line each day for our country.”

“We are deeply grateful for the Rotary Club of Brookhaven and its continued support,” said Shepherd Center Medical Director, Donald P. Leslie, MD. “The Service Above Self Invitational helps the SHARE Military Initiative deliver the care our soldiers need to transition back to active duty or civilian life.”

Founded in 2008, the SHARE Military Initiative is a comprehensive rehabilitation program that focuses on assessment and treatment for service members suffering from traumatic brain injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder sustained during the Afghanistan and Iraqi conflicts.

ABOUT THE SHARE MILITARY INITIATIVE AT SHEPHERD CENTER

Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative, which began in 2008, provides rehabilitation care for members of the military who have sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI) while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. It also assists supports and educates members of the military and their families as they return to their homes and communities so they can achieve the highest levels of independence and quality of life.
